Businesses need to understand that visual merchandising concepts are the best to present a store and its merchandises to customer. Visual merchandising is also known as merchandise displays. Merchandise displays are no longer just a matter of making merchandise look attractive for the customer. It is the actual selling of merchandise through a visual medium. Visual merchandising is a way for stores to say, “This is who we are and what we stand for.”

“We show in order to sell” is a very truthful statement in the retail world.  Visual merchandising should “show” merchandises and concepts at their best, with the end purpose of making a sale. Visual merchandising does not guaranteed an “instant purchase”, but a great and impressing merchandise displays will affect future sales.

It is extremely important that you understand merchandise displays is the teamwork of advertising, display, special events, fashion coordination, and merchandising. All of those factors dependent on each other. The definition for merchandise displays is the special arrangement and organization of display materials and merchandise to increase product purchases. It involves two basic forms: Retail window display or storefront window displays and Interior display.

Coordination between the advertising and display function is a must. Advertising is usually planned will in advance which include themes and campaign. It must be backed by interior or window display (exterior).

The merchandise being promoted through display must be important. You want the products to sell so you have to display in a way that catch the customers’ eyes. Merchandise displays make the customers to believe that “this is the product, and if the mannequin looks great, why not me statement.”
